Informal coffee meeting with Professor Han, Dean at Kyungpook National University, which is a GINP member of SDU GINP 2024-2025. Professor Han has helped set up the visit to LG in Changwon, and two of his colleagues will accompany us on that visit later the same day.

DGIST (Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology)

DGIST is a top research university specializing in robotics, AI, and mechatronics. Its Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering hosts over ten cutting-edge labs studying autonomous systems, surgical robots, and micro-robotics. Research focuses on precision control, wearable robots, and biomimetic design. DGIST also leads innovations in surgical robotics and magnetic microbots, collaborating closely with hospitals and industries to advance human-centred robotics education and technology. During the visit, there will be a DGIST-GINP seminar providing an opportunity for brief research presentations and open discussions to explore potential areas of collaboration.

LG Electronics’ Changwon Smart Factory is a leading hub for home appliance manufacturing, combining advanced AI, digital transformation, and robotics. Recognized as a World Economic Forum Lighthouse Factory, it uses Digital Twin technology, big data, and generative AI to optimize production and ensure quality. Automated systems like AGVs, AMRs, and Mobile Manipulators enhance material handling, assembly, and inspection, while Vision AI improves safety and defect detection. The delegation will tour the automated production line, visit the Whisen Park showroom, and engage with LG’s R&D leaders to discuss smart manufacturing innovations.
