My university is not a partner

Any students qualifying under the formal guidelines can apply for the International Elite Summer School in Robotics and Entrepreneurship. All applicants are treated equally in terms of academic screening.

Students from non-partner universities have to cover the participation themselves, either through private funds or by their home university or local fund or donor. The Summer School costs 3500,- Euro + travel. The 3500 Euro covers the same as for students from partnering universities, except for travel.

Students from non-partnering universities are welcome to apply and then make their final decision if accepted.

The requirements for applying are:

  • At least 4 years (equivalent to 240 ECTS) passed on a university education within robotics or nearby scientific fields and current enrollment in a master’s degree or graduate program (PhD). Final exam must be after the completion of the Summer School. Students transitioning uninterrupted from master’s to PhD at the same university are eligible.
  • English skills compared to the Danish B2 level in English
  • You can find the formal course description here
  • See the list of requirements for attending here
  • Only for Master students enrolled at other Danish universities than SDU: Apply for pre-approval of course for credit transfer. You can do this before you know if you get a spot on the summer school, as this sometimes takes a while to acquire.
  • Academic requirements must be met at the time of participation, not at the time of application.

Before applying, please make sure that you have:

1. A passport, valid for the entirety of your stay abroad

  • For non-EU/EEA: The passport must be valid 3 months after the end of your stay at SDU; not only valid for the duration of your stay

2. ONE single PDF file containing:

  • Page 1: Letter of Motivation
  • Page 2: CV
  • Page 3+: Grade transcript for all relevant university studies

PDF format

  • File name format: “<home university> – <your name>.pdf” (Examples: UC Berkeley – John Doe.pdf; KAIST – Jane Doe.pdf)
  • Please use one of the following acronyms for your home university: AU, DTU, GATech, IIT Kanpur, ITU, KAIST, KIT, KNU, MIT, Northeastern, SDU, SNU, Stanford, TUM, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, USC, AAU, or OTHER
  • Failure to meet the naming format of the PDF-file will result in your application not being considered.

Formalities:

The application closes March 15th, at 12:00 noon (CET)

Applications will be evaluated by professors at your home university as well as within SDU (University of Southern Denmark)

Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. This includes missing or incomplete appendices

Non-EU students: It is the responsibility of the students to check with the local Danish Embassy if he/she needs a VISA to Denmark. The students need to pay for the VISA themselves.

Local travel in Denmark (for example: from and to the airport, and to and from the hotel to SDU, and most dinners are, as a general rule, paid by the students themselves)

For PhD students at DANISH universities, the TUITION for the summer school is not covered

The process:

March 15th: Application deadline

Late March: Academic assessment of applications. You will be notified if you are offered a spot once all applications have been evaluated.

BEFORE April 15th: IMPORTANT: if you accept the offered spot at the summer school, you need to register your information in two different places:

  1. You’ll receive a link to register for the summer school. This is to provide information for the organizers.
  2. When you have completed the first registration, you’ll receive an order confirmation with a link to the official enrolment at SDU. To apply for the official enrolment, you must provide the following documents:
    • Copy of your passport
    • Transcript(s) of records in English of all completed university level activities.
The transcript(s) must be digitally verifiable or signed and stamped by your home university.
    • Proof of sufficient English skills
      We recommend you complete this
Language Requirement Form. The form must be signed and stamped by your home university.
    • Only for Master students enrolled at other Danish universities: Pre-approval of the course for credit transfer

PLEASE begin registration in both places as soon as you get the links, as it can take time to acquire all the documents for the official enrolment.

April 15th: Application deadline for official enrolment at SDU.

Late April: SDU reaches out to you directly if documentation is missing. Please make sure that this is not necessary.

May:

  • Acceptance letters will be issued when the tuition is paid by the sponsor
  • Visa applications: Some non-EU-citizens MUST apply for a VISA at their local Danish Embassy. The processing time may take up to three months, so do it immediately after getting your acceptance letter! It is your own responsibility to have adequate travel documentation for the stay in Denmark.

June: SDU will reach out in order to plan your travel. We will order and pay for suitable plane tickets on your behalf

August 4th: You will arrive in Odense for an experience of a lifetime!

Questions?

  • Regarding the experience, please contact your local ambassador. Of academic nature, please contact your local professor. Both are found on the Governance page
  • Questions beyond that? Feel free to reach out to the organizers, Morten and Anne-Marie. Their contact info is found under Contact

Please note that your application does not guarantee enrollment. Only students accepted for the program will get a chance to enroll.
